Budapest Airport

Duty-free is not one price. The same bottle, the same box, the same 100ml bottle of scent can cost noticeably more at one airport than another — and because you only ever stand in one of those shops, there is normally no way to know. We track the shelf price of the same product at every airport we cover, so the difference is visible before you fly rather than after.

Against Vienna, Budapest comes out cheaper on a slight majority of products we can compare.

It runs the other way against Berlin, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, where the same products are slightly more often cheaper than here. Neither airport wins everything, which is the reason to check the individual product rather than trust a rule of thumb.

The gap tends to follow the border rather than the terminal: two airports in the same country, run by the same operator, usually price within a rounding error of each other, while crossing into another country — or to another operator — is where the difference shows up. For Budapest the widest gap is against Tokyo Haneda, which is the comparison worth making before you fly.
